A Little Bit of Now

It’s been nearly 7 years since I moved from the interior of BC to the South coast.

As we all know, a lot can happen in that amount of time. Not only have I gone through a massive change on the outside, I feel completely different on the inside. Everything from relationships, diet, living situations and friendships have altered completely. And I believe it has been all for the better. At times tough, but how I feel now reflects the positivity enforced by time passed. I believe the best decision I ever made was moving to Squamish. I just felt this feeling in my gut that it’s where I had to be. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have friends here and everything was unknown. I hadn’t even visited this place before.

So, let’s recap everything that’s transpired thus far:

2011 (moved to Squamish) – 2018 (where I’m at now)

  • Instructed 100’s of swimming lessons
  • Let my lifeguarding and teaching expire (hallelujah)
  • Joined Squamish Search and Rescue
  • Hired as a Summer Ranger for BC Parks
  • Joined the GoPro advocate team
  • Travelled around the world with GoPro and Redbull
  • Lost 20lbs and started weight training
  • Got divorced
  • Joined the board of directors for Squamish Search and Rescue
  • Moved 6 times
  • Got a winter contact with BC Parks (now working year round)
  • Gathered 20.8k followers on Instagram
  • Travelled to Nepal twice
  • Climbed dozens of routes (including the Chief bottoms up)
  • Became an aunty to 2 nieces
  • Started running social media workshops
  • Worked with dozens of brands on outdoor advocacy
  • Met my dream boy
  • Cried and laughed a lot

And that’s just to name a few. When I first moved to the coast, I had no idea what I wanted in life. No real ambitions or desires. I wasn’t healthy, I wasn’t active and my online presence surely wasn’t making any sort of statement. Over the years, I discovered what my goals were and how I was going to achieve them. I knew I wanted to become a better climber and skier. I knew I wanted to transform my body for my job and health.

I knew that I wasn’t in the right relationship. So I made changes. Some were incredibly easy and some were beyond difficult. If there’s anything you can gather from this blog post, it’s that if you feel something in your gut – you should probably listen closely. It might just 180 your life completely.

If you told me years ago that this is where I would be now, I would have laughed. I would have laughed and felt a bit of longing inside for that dream. Things are constantly flowing and I never know what the next year will look like, but I do know I’m following my gut. I’m completing my goals and not settling for anything. Everything isn’t always on the up and up, I’m still juggling a frustrating rental market, living paycheque to paycheque and working on my inner self constantly.

If you are feeling like you need a little boost in life, drop me a line. I’d be happy to share any advice I have on fitness, healthy eating, climbing, travel or if you want to talk about how many mental breakdowns occurred in that time frame haha. I’m happy to share.

Sarah.
